The height of a pillow is personal, and it is the one thing almost no pillow lets you change. This one does. As a rule of thumb, side sleepers want the pillow fuller, because there is a wider gap between the shoulder and the head to fill. Back and stomach sleepers usually want it flatter, so the head is not pushed forward. If you share a bed with someone who wants the opposite, two of these can be set differently and still look identical. Adjust in small amounts over a few nights rather than all at once.
Shredded foam also behaves better than a solid slab in daily use. It can be reshaped by hand, it conforms without the pushing-back feel some moulded foam has, and air moves between the pieces so it stays more comfortable through the night.
